Why it’s here

Truly my favorite extreme demon in the game.

Deimos is truly my favorite extreme demon in the game. It is a masterclass in collaboration; the fact that nearly 30 different creators came together and managed to build something with such a cohesive, unified aesthetic is nothing short of a miracle.

The experience has to start with the song, “Deimos” by Solkrieg. This track is a masterpiece, plain and simple. It stands out because it unexpectedly merges classical compositional frameworks — dating back to the Baroque and Classical eras — with modern dubstep production techniques. The level matches this musical tension flawlessly. From the very first click all the way to 30% where the first drop hits, the song never ceases to build, introducing new instruments and layers while the gameplay relentlessly ratchets up the intensity.

But it's after the first drop where Deimos truly earns its legendary status. The slower break in the middle before the second drop might look mundane to a casual viewer, but this is exactly where the level gains its soul. You have just been worn down by a minute and a half of brutal, high-focus gameplay, and suddenly you get a breather. It's a tense, fleeting break; you know it won't last, but you desperately need to collect yourself to survive the finale.

When the second drop finally hits, the song uses negative space for maximum impact rather than just sheer volume. By briefly stripping away the drums and leaving only an isolated vocal track right before the drop, it creates a visceral feeling of breaking through a brick wall — a perfect metaphor for pushing through the end of the level. The final dual, drawing heavy inspiration from the infamous unnerfed Phobos final dual, is an incredibly poetic way to close out the run. Deimos isn't just a level; it encapsulates a full, exhausting, and triumphant journey, cementing it as my favorite extreme of all time.

This is still very unfinished

A lot of the descriptions could be wrong, and a ton of the writing here is still all AI.

So if you see something wrong, I already know about it.
